Dersin İçeriği
This course covers the fundamental concepts and processes of scientific research. The concepts of science, scientific knowledge, and scientific method are examined, along with the stages of identifying the research problem, formulating the research question, and developing hypotheses. Quantitative and qualitative research approaches, as well as experimental, descriptive, correlational, and causal comparative research methods, are introduced. Emphasis is placed on population and sample selection, variables, measurement, and data collection techniques (surveys, observation, experiments, document analysis, etc.).
The processes of organizing collected data, basic statistical analysis methods, data evaluation, and interpretation are explained. The reporting of research findings, the stages followed in writing scientific articles, theses, and projects, and academic writing rules are discussed.
Dersin Amacı
The aim of this course is to examine the scientific research process (problem identification, data collection, data analysis, and interpretation of results), review key scientific research methods (experimental method, descriptive method, etc.), and to ensure that students learn the techniques necessary to conduct research on a specific topic, such as finding a research question, formulating a hypothesis, conceptualizing, measuring, collecting data, analyzing data, evaluating/interpreting data, and writing reports. This course will emphasize ethical concepts and theories, research ethics and publication ethics, as well as unethical behavior. It aims to provide information and awareness about the most common research and publication ethics violations, methods to prevent them, and the steps to follow if a violation is detected.
